Not far from Itz’ana, about an hour’s drive into the forested interior of Central Belize, one of the world’s most beautiful and elusive predators gracefully slinks across the damp terrain.

Every month or so, we like to introduce you to one of the families who’ve joined the Itz’ana community. So far, you’ve met Justin Keane, who was drawn to the authentic local vibes of Placencia, and the Senkes, who love Itz’ana’s emphasis on nature-first.

Visitors to Belize often find themselves impressed by the immense biodiversity on view in our tropical country. Offshore, the Belize Barrier Reef is home to thousands of species of fish. On land, hundreds of bird species are a delight to naturalists.

Coral reefs are one of the world’s most valuable ecosystems, supporting thousands of species in a brilliant, colorful home. Just off our pristine coastline, Belize’s Barrier Reef is the largest such reef in the Western Hemisphere, and the healthiest living reef in the world.

September was a big month of celebration and activities for us in Belize. September 10th was the final battle in the Spaniards attempt to take over Belize in 1798 and September 21st marks the Independence of Belize from Britain in 1981—these markers make the whole month one of celebration!
