The Year At Itz'ana

Placencia is quickly becoming a magnet for those seeking art and culture, pristine beaches, world class food and VIP events. As we enter the next phase of development, Itz'ana is thrilled to showcase the best Placencia and Belize has to offer in 2016 to our friends from afar.

If you're still trying to decide when to come see the beauty and experience the culture of Placencia, we've compiled a guide to some of the events we're looking forward to over the next twelve months:

February

A birthday under the stars

Tanya Carter, three-times Belize female vocalist of the year, has chosen to have her birthday party with us at our pop-up beach restaurant, Limilita. We can't wait to host this powerhouse reggae musician, one of Belize's favorite artists. And everyone in knows the best place to celebrate in Placencia is on the beach with Itz'ana's incredible gourmet chef, Mara Jernigan. Limilita events happen regularly throughout the year, so feel free to contact us when you're in town to see what's happening!

The Year At Itz'ana

Placencia Sidewalk Arts & Music Festival (13th-14th)

After rubbing shoulders with a Belizean celeb, it's time for a more grassroots event at the Sidewalk Festival. It's a cultural explosion of Belize's best musicians, artists, artisans and food. Now in its 12th year, the festival is a great way to soak up some culture, and maybe even acquire some unique Belizean artwork for your new villa.

March

Phase Two begins at Itz'ana

March marks the start of our next phase and the release of more lagoon and beachfront residences. So if you've missed out on reserving your home away from home in phase one, don't hesitate to stake your claim in our next release! We'll also be laying the foundations of our phase one lagoon front villas in March.

May

Big things start to appear... above and below the waves!

With the walls and roof of the Great House complete, we'll be framing the residences, as the properties really start to take shape. Meanwhile, Belize will be gearing up for a month of foodie delights and the start of whale shark season, which continues until July.

Chocolate Festival of Belize (20th-22nd)

Down the coast from Placencia, the beautiful Punta Gorda area comes alive with the aromatic smells and tastes of the highest quality organic Belizean chocolate in the annual Chocolate Festival. Taking place in the Toledo district - renowned as one of the best cacao-growing regions in the world - this weekend is a chocolate lover's dream.

Placencia Lobsterfest (24th-26th)

Shellfish lovers, come on down! In June, Placencia hosts its popular Lobsterfest - a yearly favorite for both locals and tourists. While you can, of course, get amazing lobster in Placencia throughout the season, this is the weekend we kick it off. Join fellow lobster fans to take part in competitions and spend some time indulging in the undisputed king of seafood.

September

Belize Independence Celebrations (10th-21st)

Beginning with St. George's Caye Day, which commemorates the defeat of the Spanish Navy by English settlers and liberated slaves in 1798, September is all about celebrating the stunning young country of Belize. The September celebrations run right through until Belize's Independence Day, on the 21st.

The Year At Itz'ana

The Belize Independence Day Parade is truly an extraordinary sight. It's a fiesta of color, music and movement as we celebrate everything Belizean. There are events throughout the country, so wherever you are, you won't miss out.

October

Belize International Film Festival

The 11th annual Belize Film Festival takes place throughout October and features the best of local and international filmmaking. From documentaries to animated shorts, feature films to industry talks and events, this is a must for film buffs.

November

Garifuna Settlement Day (19th)

After being expelled from the Grenadines by British colonists in the 19th century, the Garifuna people sought asylum on the coast of Belize. The culture has thrived ever since, and every year their arrival in Belize is marked with pageantry, re-enactments, food and drink and a 24-hour party, celebrating both unity and diversity.
