Dating back to 1975, Carnival in Belize has always been an event that showcases Belize's vibrant culture and arts. After two years of dormancy, Carnival returns under the theme, "Carnival 2022! We Outside! We Back Pon the Road!" On Carnival Day, colorful floats, extravagant costumes and rhythmic music set the scene for the most spirited street festival you'll ever witness. The largest carnival parade often starts on the south side of Belize City and ends on the north side. Revelers dance in the streets behind trucks and massive speakers playing calypso, soca, punta, and other lively Caribbean genres. Though Placencia's carnival is smaller in size, the celebration of our country's independence is still a lively affair. In the past, our Placencia carnival has showcased dazzling floats that represent the country's extraordinary natural resources, such as the incredible Scarlet Macaw float featured in the carnival of 2019.
